Become a OneWig OneSmile Wig Academy Trainer

Share Your Skills. Inspire Others. Help Create Opportunities.

The OneWig OneSmile Wig Academy is a flagship skills and education programme of OneWig OneSmile, created to make practical wig-making education more accessible while developing skills, confidence and opportunities across the UK.

As our Academy grows, we are building a diverse network of experienced wig makers, stylists and specialist hair professionals who would like to share their knowledge and help us develop the next generation of wig-making talent.

Whether you can contribute one hour, one specialist session, several sessions or support an entire cohort, we would love to hear from you.

Why We Created the Wig Academy

OneWig OneSmile provides wigs and confidence support to women experiencing medical hair loss.

Through our work, we have seen first-hand the importance of skilled wig makers and the difference that well-constructed, appropriately fitted wigs can make to someone's confidence and sense of identity.

The Wig Academy extends this mission through education.

Our aim is to provide accessible, practical wig-making education while developing a growing community of people with skills that may create pathways into:

  • employment;
  • self-employment;
  • entrepreneurship;
  • volunteering;
  • further specialist training; and
  • supporting people experiencing medical hair loss.

Our first FREE 3-Day Wig Making Foundation Programme takes place online from 24–26 September 2026, with future cohorts and specialist programmes planned as the Academy develops.

Why We're Building a Trainer Network

We don't want the OneWig OneSmile Wig Academy to depend upon a single trainer.

Our long-term ambition is to develop a network of experienced wig professionals with different areas of expertise who can contribute to different parts of our curriculum.

One trainer may specialise in traditional construction.

Another may be exceptional at ventilation.

Another may specialise in colouring.

Another may have extensive experience with medical wigs.

Another may contribute only one masterclass each year.

Every contribution can make a difference.

As the Academy grows, this network will help us maintain quality, introduce new techniques and eventually expand our programmes across different parts of the UK.

You Don't Have to Be a Professional Teacher

Great Wig Maker, But Never Taught Before?

That's okay.

We recognise that being an experienced wig maker does not necessarily mean that you have previously worked as a professional trainer.

We're primarily looking for people with genuine practical expertise, good professional standards, patience and a willingness to share their knowledge.

Selected trainers will receive guidance on:

  • what needs to be covered;
  • learning objectives;
  • lesson structure;
  • practical demonstrations;
  • session timings;
  • learner exercises;
  • assessment requirements;
  • common learner difficulties;
  • online delivery;
  • Academy quality standards.

Our aim is to allow you to concentrate on what you know best - wig making, while the Academy provides the structure needed to help you teach it effectively.

Ways You Can Get Involved

There is no expectation that every trainer must commit to an entire cohort.

Professionals can express an interest in:

Foundation Programme Training - Teach one or more parts of our beginner Foundation Programme or future cohorts.

Guest Masterclasses - Deliver a focused session within your area of expertise.

Practical Support - Help learners during practical sessions and demonstrations.

Assignment Assessment - Review practical learner work and provide constructive feedback.

Advanced Training - Contribute to future programmes as the Academy curriculum expands.

Specialist Training - Support areas such as ventilation, colouring, lace work, styling or restoration.

One-to-One Mentoring - Support learners who wish to develop their skills further.

Curriculum Development - Help review and improve Academy technical content.

Educational Content - Help create demonstrations and training videos for the Academy learning library.

Future Physical Workshops - Support face-to-face training as the Academy expands.

Don't see your speciality listed? We would still love to hear from you. As our curriculum develops, additional expertise may be relevant to future programmes.

How Much Time Do I Need to Give?

As Little or As Much As You Can.

We understand that experienced wig makers often run their own businesses and have existing professional commitments.

You might contribute:

1 hour — Specialist demonstration

2–4 hours — Academy training session

1 day — Practical workshop

3 days — Foundation cohort

Occasionally — Assignment assessment or mentoring

Regularly — Become part of our ongoing Trainer Network

There is no minimum commitment simply to express your interest.

Is This a Volunteer Role?

Supporting the Academy

OneWig OneSmile is a registered charity, and keeping our Foundation Programme accessible and free requires significant support from volunteers, professionals and partners.

We therefore particularly welcome experienced wig makers who are willing to volunteer some or all of their expertise in support of our charitable mission.

We also recognise that not every professional is able to volunteer their time.

Depending on the programme, role and available charitable resources, we may therefore consider reasonable trainer fees and/or agreed expenses.

You can tell us what type of contribution would be possible for you when completing the Expression of Interest form.

There is no expectation that you should commit before speaking with us.

  • Learner materials

Protecting Quality

 One Academy. Consistent Standards.

Every trainer brings their own experience, personality and specialist knowledge.

However, learners should receive a consistently high-quality experience regardless of who teaches them.

For this reason, selected trainers will be expected to deliver training within the OneWig OneSmile Wig Academy curriculum, teaching framework and quality standards.

Trainers are encouraged to contribute their expertise and professional insights, but core learning objectives, assessment requirements and Academy standards must remain consistent.

Academy Training Materials

 One Academy. Consistent Standards.

Our Training Resources

OneWig OneSmile is developing a structured library of Academy teaching materials, including curricula, manuals, lesson plans, learner resources, assessments and educational content.

Selected trainers may receive controlled access to materials relevant to the sessions they are delivering.

Academy materials remain the intellectual property of OneWig OneSmile and may only be used for authorised Academy activities in accordance with the Trainer Agreement.

Trainers retain ownership of their own pre-existing intellectual property and professional knowledge.

That final sentence matters. You don't want an experienced wig maker thinking that joining you means the charity suddenly owns techniques or resources they created independently.

  • Reliability
  • Respect for different backgrounds and abilities

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a teaching qualification?

No. Previous teaching experience is helpful but isn't essential. We are particularly interested in strong practical expertise and a willingness to support learners. Selected trainers will receive structured Academy guidance for the sessions they deliver.

Do I need to volunteer for an entire course?

No. Contributions can range from a single specialist session to regular involvement across multiple cohorts.

Can I volunteer if I run my own wig business?

Yes. Many of the professionals we hope to work with will have their own businesses or professional practices.

Can I promote my business during training?

Academy sessions must primarily focus on learner education rather than commercial promotion. Appropriate acknowledgement of trainers and their businesses must be agreed with the Academy separately.

Can I use the Academy training materials for my own courses?

No. Academy manuals, curriculum, assessments and other protected materials supplied to trainers may only be used for authorised OneWig OneSmile Academy activities unless written permission is provided.

This does not prevent trainers from using their own pre-existing skills, knowledge or independently created materials in their own professional activities.

Will I be paid?

The Academy particularly welcomes professionals who are able to volunteer some of their time. Where voluntary support isn't possible, reasonable trainer fees or agreed expenses may be considered depending on the programme and available charitable resources.

Is training online?

Our first Foundation Programme is being delivered online. Future Academy activities may include online, hybrid and physical training.

What happens if I'm not available for the September cohort?

Please still apply. We are developing a long-term Trainer Network for future cohorts and programmes.

Can I apply from outside the UK?

For the UK Academy trainer network, we currently prioritise UK-based professionals because the programme itself is UK-focused. We may revisit international trainers later, particularly for specialist virtual masterclasses.

Ready to Share Your Expertise?

Whether you can give one hour or become a regular Academy trainer, your expertise could help someone discover a skill they never thought they could learn.

Help us make high-quality wig-making education more accessible while supporting the wider mission of OneWig OneSmile.
