- All we require from you is a medical report confirming your medical hair-loss. We will send you a consent form following your initial application which you will need to fill and return to us.
Do you provide Synthetic wigs?
- No. All wigs are made from real hair, synthetic wigs are provided already by NHS services and some other wig banks for qualified patients so we are not looking to duplicate the service.
where and how do you source for the wigs?
- Manufacturers in Vietnam process our human hair bundles which are suitable for all women regardless of their ethnicity
- Upon receipt from the manufacturers, our human hair bundles are then made into wigs by UK NHS registered wig makers
- Our braided/cornrow wigs are processed by registered braided wig stylists in Nigeria in order to attain excellent quality of finish from experienced braiders whilst minimizing cost. .
How long is the wig application process?
- OneWig Onesmile aim to provide free wigs to women with medical hair loss. We understand the potential difficult time you may be going through and intend to process your application as quickly as possible. Please note that we are a small charity, therefore we provide wigs on a first come, first serve basis and within the financial resource of the organisation which means you may be placed on a waiting list, depending on how many request we receive, this is reviewed monthly and we aim to update people on the waiting list every month. We therefore advise that you contact us well in advance, before your treatment starts or as soon as you notice your hair is starting to come off. Our current estimated processing time between when we receive your application and when we post your wig to you is 1-2months.
- Due to COVIV-19, we are experiencing a very slow processing outcome as salons are under lockdown therefore we have put all wig making on hold. You may still send your application through.
Do you cater for BAME women only?
- No. We offer different range of wigs for all ethnic backgrounds. Although we provide a unique service for the BAME people, this is because it is a service currently not offered within not-for-profit organisations in the UK and alot of women within this group finds it difficult to access wigs that are suitable for their hair type and style. We believe that suitable wigs should be offered regardless of race, in order for the recipient to feel as natural as possible during a potentially difficult time. This requires access to a range of darker colours, and the option of hand tied cornrow or single plaits to give a unique choice of style. Our braided wigs are all made with 80% Human Hair, with added hair extensions, which are very light & comfortable to wear
Do you accept hair donations?
- We currently accept short hair donation from The Little Princess Trust
- We do not accept hair donations from other individuals at the moment due to logistics, however we are looking into this option for our mid-term plans and once we have adequate resources to accommodate this.
Do you give used wigs?
- When we run out of new wigs, we will offer an alternative fairly used real hair wigs donated by celebrities and other individuals but has been revamped by registered salons into great re-useable condition
- Provision of revamped human hair wig for women of all races when a second request free wig support is received. This initiative will allow individuals who are perhaps unable to give financially, to offer assistance by means of donating a used but good condition human hair wig .The donated wig will be cleaned & refurbished by registered NHS salons within the United Kingdom, in order to become a suitable gift for the beneficiary. All donated wigs will need to be of a suitable standard to be eligible for use, so no guarantee of use or information on where your donated wig has gone, can be given.
